This paper describes an increase in resolution of an acousto-optic Bragg imaging system by introducing an optical superresolution technique. The theory of acoustically naodified superresolution is analogous to that of optical superresolution and the image-performance is due to the reconstruction of image holograms produced by the composite system of a Bragg imaging system and a Bragg-diffracted light generator. Experimentally obtained images demonstrated a good verification of the theory and the effect of the reduction of background noises. In particular, the resolvable object distance was approximately eight times the sound wavelength used, which had not been obtained in a usual Bragg imaging system.
