The phase transition in single crystals of a congruently-melting LiNbO3–Fe2O3 solid-solution, grown by the Czochralski pulling method, has been investigated using dilatometry. It was found that the Curie point, which corresponded to the phase transition temperature, was greatly lowered by the addition of 0.1 mol% Fe2O3. This effect is tentatively explained as a decrease in covalency in the metal-oxygen octahedra.
