It is shown that there is a reduced species originating from LaF3 in ZrF4-based fluoride glasses, in addition to the well-known reduced zirconium. Absorptivity of reduced lanthanum for the induced absorption is measured. The influence of the induced absorption on the spectral attenuation is considered.
