We have studied the nearly monochromatic reverse wave generated by a video pulse propagating in a nonlinear medium in which the nonlinearity varies periodically with the position. We considered theoretically the one-dimensional case of a medium with quadratic non-linearity depending sinusoidally on position. The intensity and duration of a quasi-monochromatic reverse wave's generation were evaluated, taking into account various characteristics of the video pulse, as well as the length and nonlinear properties of the medium. Our experimental results obtained on a radio-frequency transmission line with nonlinear capacitors confirm the theory.
