We have demonstrated a cryogenically cooled Q-switched Yb:YAG laser oscillator in a diode pump. A high average power of 74 W was obtained with a pulse energy of several mJ. The optical–optical efficiency was as high as 60%. The spatial beam profile was excellent at M2<1.4 with no additional compensation optics.
