Optoelectronic Mixing in Electroabsorption Waveguides under Very High Optical Power

We examine the performance of the electroabsorption (EA) mixer at high optical power. It is shown that the EA mixer can theoretically achieve an external conversion loss of ∼0 dB for waveguides that can handle very high optical power. The analysis is consistent with data deduced from prior experiments.
