It is theoretically shown for the gated RF pulse measurement method how obtainable frequency resolution, dynamic range and amplitude accuracy are affected by gating and sampling pulse widths. Emphasis is laid on the situation where, to separate various closely spaced responses, either gating or sampling pulse width needs to be shorter than the impulse response length of the device concerned. The result has shown that so long as the device geometry permits the separation of a specied response, the sampling pulse width rather than the gating pulse width should be shortened.
