The eigenfrequencies of both the squashing and real squashing modes are determined independently of the temperature scale. This is accomplished by the identification of 2Δ(T) at each sound frequency. Measurements have been made at 34.2, 44.2 and 54.0 MHz and pressures of 3.90, 2.52, 1.57 bar where strong coupling effects are believed small. The eigenfrequencies of the two modes are close to the theoretical values, with no interaction effects, of (12/5)½Δ and (8.5)½Δ. This indicates that ℓ=3 pairing fluctuations are much weaker than had previously been suggested.
